It’s all about the Not.
Not rushing to a conclusion. That’s what we are doing. We had mom’s first appointment with Dr. Costa at Texas Oncology on Monday, and we left with no conclusions
He said that she has a “sick gallbladder” that needs to be looked at as well as her colon and liver. He also said that there were too many questions and loose ends that he could not make any conclusions right now.
Let me just stop right her and be totally honest. Dr. Costa did NOT say, “Mrs. Johnston there is nothing we can do. Get your affairs in order.” So to us, that is our first victory. When we spoke to her doctor in Weatherford, everything sounded bad. It sounded certain. Even their tone of voice was grave. I feel certain it was the worst phone conversation that either of us had ever had in our combined 114 years of life.
Her blood level was “critically low,” so she spent Tuesday to the hospital receiving several units of blood. I talked to her yesterday afternoon, when she got back to Christy’s, and she said she was already feeling a little better and stronger. When I talked to her this morning she sounded like my momma!
The Dr. also ordered a PET Scan, but because there has not been a biopsy yet, the insurance would not authorize it. The nurse has a referral to a Gastroenterologist in the works to move us forward.
